It was always going to be a career in music for Australia's Stevie Paige. Finding the right fit though, was going to be a journey in itself. Stevie was brought up in the country town of Hanging Rock in Victoria and was introduced to the guitar in her final year of primary school. Playing guitar came as naturally as breathing, and within months Stevie was being encouraged to seek professional tuition. Stevie began taking lessons in classical guitar and within a year came to the attention of Melbourne University's "Special Training Course for the Musically Gifted", where Stevie accepted a place to study under some of the country's finest classical musicians.
Not long after this Stevie started to dabble in a completely different aspect of music, that of singer/guitarist. Entering and winning numerous local talent contests in around her home town, resulted in the then 15 year being offered long term performer residency's at many of the town's entertainment venues. Still not considering herself a singer, Stevie's main focus was on building a career as a classical guitarist. A music scholarship to Melbourne's prestigious University High School where she completed her year 12, was followed up by successful auditions to both the Canberra School of Music and the Victorian College of the Arts. After successfully graduating from the VCA, Stevie embarked on a series of concert tours, both as a soloist and with various ensemble and orchestral companies. A highlight of this being a performance with legendary classical guitarist John Williams (also known to many as the guitarist from "Sky") at the Melbourne Concert Hall. But despite an invitation to audition for London's prestigious "Royal College of Music", Stevie found herself being drawn back to the singer/guitarist aspect explored years before.
An interest in song writing began to develop, and with a grand total of three songs in her catalogue, Stevie entered a song contest with the Victorian Rock Foundation, and was one of the winners of the "Next Big Thing" industry showcase award with her original track "Stay This Time." Her successful debut album "Listen Up Boys" soon followed, with the track "Until You Believe" receiving commercial airplay on Fox FM and various other stations around Australia. Whilst happy with the success of the album, Stevie was still searching for "Mr Right" in terms of her musical style. The next recording project, an EP, delved more into straight up rock, and although never officially released "Break the Sun" sold out though live shows and website sales.
An interest from one of Australia's leading Blues labels, took Stevie down a completely new and quite unplanned path. Encouraged to explore the new possibilities, Stevie embarked on a new journey armed with just her guitar and a thing called a "stomp box". Over the next four years, Stevie toured extensively around Australia playing to hundreds of people and venues. Never was there a truer saying of practice makes perfect - a natural evolution and coming together of styles saw Stevie emerge at the other side one of Australia's finest performers and writers of Soul music. Along the way Stevie has been invited to perform and work with some of Australia's best talent including, Renee Geyer, Tommy Emmanuel, Mia Dyson and Chris Wilson.
Stevie's solo album entitled "III" was well received both here and in the USA, culminating in her signing a recording contract with LA record label "Rock Bottom Blues" as well as signing on to Hollywood film company "Tree Fort Productions" as a score writer. A growing favourite on the Blues Festival circuit, Stevie is popular amongst music goers for both her talent and infectious optimism. Stevie is indeed a great ambassador for Soul Music both at home in Australia and abroad.
